What Metis is
The assistant built into Avioverse — what it reads, how it answers, and where it stops.
On this page
Metis is the assistant built into Avioverse. It is one assistant, reachable from several places — the full chat, the chat that sits beside a document you have open, your browser, and your phone. Wherever you meet it, it is the same assistant, with memory and tools depending on the surface and your settings.
This manual is the operating guide. Read it front to back the first time; after that, use the contents to find the part you need.
It looks things up rather than recalling
The single most important thing to understand about Metis is that it is built to resolve, not to remember. When you ask about a rule, it searches the stored text of the sources it holds and answers from what it actually found:
- EASA regulations, with their cross-references
- Airworthiness Directives and Safety Information Bulletins
- Type-Certificate Data Sheets and aircraft type ratings
- Aerodrome and airspace data
- FAA rules and advisory circulars
- Suspected-unapproved-parts notices
If the answer is not in that library, it can search the live web and read the publisher's own page. Search results are treated as leads, never as authority: for a question like "what is the latest Airworthiness Directive for this type", it goes to the regulator's own register rather than trusting a search ranking, because freshly published pages lag search engines.
Every answer that used sources carries numbered [1] markers in the text and a
single Sources list at the end. Select a marker and you see the passage that was
actually retrieved, with a link to the source. Where the text you are reading is
a paraphrase rather than a quotation, the popover says so plainly.
How answers are checked
When a reply uses retrieved evidence, Metis checks source references and can compare the answer with that evidence. A flagged problem can trigger one correction pass. A revised answer is checked again before it replaces the draft. In root-cause investigations using the investigation method, checking also compares case-specific claims with the facts you supplied. The chat's Source check setting controls these AI comparisons and corrections; reference checks still run when it is off.
The answer's label describes the result: Checked against sources means the delivered answer completed the check without a remaining flagged concern. Checked against context describes the same result against available case context when there are no cited sources; Review suggested means a material concern remains; Not checked means the check did not complete or was disabled. The answer still arrives.
These checks help you review the work. They do not establish complete source coverage or guarantee that every statement is correct.
Approval for designated actions
Designated actions pause for approval, including deleting a record, submitting a form through the browser extension and creating a scheduled job. Ordinary authorised saves and updates can proceed without a separate approval. Approving a tool action does not accept the resulting work as professionally correct. See Approvals, undo and your data.
Where it stops
Metis retrieves, quotes, drafts and checks. It does not decide.
It will tell you what a rule says, show you the wording, draft the assessment or the procedure, and flag what looks inconsistent. It will not tell you that your organisation is compliant, and it is built to avoid combining a regulation with your own circumstances into a conclusion that the citation then appears to vouch for. That judgement is yours, against your approved exposition.
You can rename it, by the way — "Metis" is the default, not a fixture. See Setting up.
Informational only — you verify against the approved exposition before you act.
Frequently asked questions
Is Metis a separate product from Avioverse?
No. Metis is the assistant inside the Avioverse workbench. There is nothing extra to install, and no separate account.
Can Metis decide whether something is compliant?
No. It retrieves and quotes the sources, lays out what they say, and drafts work for you to check. The compliance decision, and the accountability for it, stay with you.
